• Project Overview
The USFQ laboratory project, delivered in January 2026 for the san francisco university of quito focused on developing a university laboratory environment designed to support academic learning, research activities, and daily student use. The objective was to create a space that balances durability, safety, and functionality while accommodating high student traffic and diverse laboratory practices. The USFQ laboratory required a flexible and well organized layout capable of supporting multiple users simultaneously while maintaining a professional environment that enhances both teaching efficiency.
• The Challenge
One of the main challenges of the USFQ laboratory project was designing a space capable of handling continuous student use while maintaining safety, durability, and organization. University laboratories experience high turnover, varied skill levels, and constant activity throughout the day. Ensuring safe workflows, clear circulation paths, and properly equipped workstations was essential to prevent accidents and maintain productivity. The environment also needed to support both instructional activities and independent student work without compromising order or operational consistency.
• Our Approach
To address these requirements, the USFQ laboratory was developed using materials and equipment selected for durability, safety, and academic functionality. The workstations were built with phenolic countertops providing chemical resistant and durable surfaces suitable for frequent student use. metal cabinets was incorporated to ensure secure and organized storage, while laboratory chairs were selected to provide comfort and stability during extended sessions. Additionally, deck-mount eyewash units were integrated to enhance safety and ensure immediate response capability during laboratory activities.
• The Result
The completed USFQ laboratory now provides a reliable and safe environment tailored for academic and research activities. With durable work surfaces, organized storage, ergonomic seating, and integrated safety features, the laboratory supports both teaching and hands on learning. The space allows students and instructors to work efficiently within a structured environment that promotes safety, organization, and consistent performance, ensuring the laboratory can handle continuous academic use while maintaining a professional and well equipped setting.
